2021 Jewelry Trends in a Pandemic

The world was shocked and forced into wearing the most boring but most essential accessory in stopping the spread of germs; a face mask. We bought mini hand sanitizers, disinfectant sprays, cleansing wet wipes, and germ-keys to help us stay safe but we still buy accessories to make them fashionable. In 2021 we are learning that face masks can be cute and functional but there are still some hurdles to climb to make them comfortable and fashionable. Using my most stylish crystal ball, I’ll predict the latest jewelry trends for 2021 that will make you stand out against the crowd.
You can find statement jewelry going to the next level this year. Brands like Hermes are adding hardware to statement pieces. We’re looking for something substantial in the jewelry for 2021. Cubist ball and chain pieces can be found all over the runway. There is an assortment of geometric pieces tying everything together. Mostly spheres and cubes but basic mathematical shapes are definitely in.
Speaking of geometric shapes, the predictions for the summer jewelry is a resurgence of pearls and lots of them. Look for layering, different colors, and sizes on the runway this summer. Long necklaces pair well with this trend. The past few seasons have been filled with chokers so this year we are starting off with a refreshing spin on long necklaces. Louis Vuitton made a necklace with a purse so tiny it could probably only fit a breath mint in it and critics everywhere went gaga over it.
One single statement earring can take a look from dull to inspired. Fendi is taking a fresh look and incorporating trends like this. This is a look the men can participate in too; Harry Styles 2019 Met Gala with his single pearl earring. 2021 is blurring the lines between what is traditionally considered masculine or feminine.
The resurgence of bangles is my favorite trend so far. Designers are stacking bangles up to elbows, having matching pairs, and sometimes having just one for that special pop of color. Whether the bangles are silver metallic hardware pieces or dainty gold sets, they are one fashion staple that can go with anything. There’s something about a hammered gold bangle that is poetic and symbolic to everyday life during a pandemic.
Just as Megan Thee Stallion popularized hot girl summer, Saweetie popularized being icy. Taking your basic white tank top and a pair of sweatpants to the next level with a pair of sparkling diamond hoops, chain, and tennis bracelet to match. Rhinestone ear cuffs and diamond headpieces will be keeping your spring and summer fits icy. Streetwear has always had an affinity for all things bling but with the popularity of Netflix’s The Crown, there are going to be more pieces to level up business wear for your zoom meetings.
The trends this year are familiar but revamped to fit our modern wave. Go for textures, colors, and layers. Chandelier earrings with hammered shingles, a singular androgynous statement earring, elevated gold chains, or colorful strings of pearls take your pick of any and you won’t be lead astray.
